DESCRIPTIVE TEXT

Hello everyone welcome back to my blog again, today i want to share my assignment that contain descriptive text in detail. The article I wrote is based on learning at my school, from my teacher, the website, and the SPLASH class XI school textbook. 


A. Descriptive Text Definition

Descriptive Text function to explain something. Whether it's people, objects, events or places. Descriptive text provides detailed explanations based on observations of the five senses: feeling, hearing, touching, smelling and seeing. So that readers understand the object of information they are looking for.


B. Descriptive Text Stucture

• Identification (introduction/classification)

Introduce the topic, person, idea, or thing that is being described or explained and how the topic being described or explained.

• Description (characteristic features)

Describe the features or characteristics that are important to remember or understand about the topic being described. 


C. Language Features in Descriptive Text

• Specific participant

It can be something which is not common and usually unique because it is the only one in the world.

• Adjective

They can be adjectives, adjective phrases, or land adjective clauses.

• Simple present tense

Is used in sentences that express activities or facts that happen in the present. This tense uses only one verb.

• Action verbs

Use verbs that indicate an activity or an activity that can be seen. For example, sleep, walk, sing, dance, etc.

• Figurative language

Usually using a metaphor to provide an illustration to the reader.


D. Adjective Order

The general order of adjectives before noun is the following: 

OSASCOMP

1. Opinion (Attitude/Observation) 

Good. beautiful. ugly. amazing....etc. 

2. Size (Size/Height)

Large. medium. short. little....etc.

3. Age (How old is it?) 

Modern. old. ancient. mature....etc.

4. Shape (Shape/ Weight/ Length) 

Round. triangle. circular. rectangular....etc.

5. Color (Color/Approximate Color) Black. green. blue. yellow....etc.

6. Origin (Where is it from?) 

Spanish. Javanese. French. Japanese....etc.

7. Material (What is it made of?) 

Leather. metal. gold. silver....etc.

8. Purpose (What is it used for?) 

Riding. plating. meeting. running....etc.


After understanding OSASCOMP, we can learn to compose English graduate.
